One of the biggest problems with Botwiki, a project that I’ve been working on for the past five years, has been that in order to show examples of bots posting on Twitter, I wanted to add some of their tweets. This requires loading Twitter’s scripts and leaving the company free to track your users.
While there are ways to around this, one simples solution that also takes care of other privacy and security issues while browsing the web is to use an ad blocking browser extension.
My first public WordPress plugin is designed to detect whether your website’s visitors have such browser extension enabled and notify them if they do not.
Amused that @botwikidotorg will pop up a message if you don’t have an ad blocker and tell you to get an ad blocker— cassie (@porglezomp) October 14, 2020
